Welcome to House of Travel Ferrymead

House of Travel Ferrymead has been operating for 27 years, originating as House of Travel Linwood on Buckleys Road where it specialized in Pilgrimage tours and specialty holidays before relocating to Ferry Road and rebranding as House of Travel Ferrymead.

These days the business has grown and evolved and Owner Operator Mel Hubber (nee Lowen) believes her team are one of the most well-travelled and experienced in the business.

'We absolutely stand by the value we offer to our travel community and this has been proven time and time again with Covid and weather events over the last few years'. 'We are only a phone call away if you need assistance and our priority is protecting your funds by using our preferred suppliers, and providing flexibility so that we can assist if things do need changing'.

We also like to take the time to thoroughly advise you of any travel restrictions and visa requirements and take pride in our final documentation which we provide electronically as well as hard copy of everything in an eco friendly wallet for you to pick up.

During these times of greater complexity we are working by appointments to ensure we have the time to cover all of these details in depth.

'We believe strong relationships with clients and suppliers are key to success in the travel industry and believe each of the team have a strong work ethic and values that compliment the House of Travel philosophy of enriching people's lives through travel.'

'These days it's about ensuring we are with clients on their journey every step of the way - from the initial search phase, then the actual travelling phase, and then returning home with feedback and booking the next one phase!'

Their core business is holiday packages to the Pacific Islands and Australia, North America, Worldwide Cruising and River Cruising (top shop for Avalon waterways 2015 and 2016;) UK and Europe independent travel and guided holidays, African adventures and everything in between.

Pilgrimage tours and group travel remain a key focus and so does searching out the best value Business class fares and how to take advantage of lounge access and airline memberships.

Stay in touch with the deals and the best way of exploring a country or destination.

Melanie Hubber

Meet the team

I am passionate about sustainable travel for the future. Sustainable doesn't mean you can't have luxury! My personal holidays always have a sense of adventure, you will find me on a beach or mountain or taking in a cultural experience to make the most of a destination.

I have been in travel for much of my life and some of my travel highlights would have to be trekking to Everest base camp along with living in the UK & Ireland and exploring from there. I have also completed the New York marathon.

I have travelled to over 40 countries and I am always plotting what's next - however, the more places I experience, the longer the longer the list gets! I love the anticipation of a new adventure and learning as much as I can from every new journey. I am a self-described travel enthusiast, so being able to talk travel every day and share my passion for travel is a dream come true. I love helping people realize their travel dreams and being able to live vicariously through experiences.

    BOEING 787 LANDS IN ANTARCTICA

The world's first Boeing 787 Dreamliner successfully skated on the 3000 metre ice runway in Troll, Antarctica. This ice-breaking moment carried 45 scientist and researchers from the Norwegian Polar Institute. The runway only operates between October and March, just before it sees it's last day of daylight for nearly 6 months. Despite this incredible feat, commercial flights show no indication of being in the talks.

ENGINE ISSUES CAUSE 2 YEAR DELAYS FOR AIR NEW ZEALAND

In July this year, engine manufacturer Pratt and Whitney announced that 700 planes across the globe need to be inspected. Air New Zealand has 17 Airbus A320 and A321 NEO's which fly to Australia, Pacific Islands and other domestic routes need to be inspected. Chief executive Greg Foran said most customers are still likely to fly on the same day however, some international flights will move a day either side of their original booking date. A refund will be available to the 150,000 affected passengers if their changed service doesn't suit there itineraries. This will see the pause to direct flights from Auckland to Hobart and Seoul from April 2024.

EXCITING INNOVATIONS TO THE WAY WE TRAVEL

With the world reopening and travel is becoming more attractive than ever. Innovations are set in place to make the travelling experience so much better. Imagine not having to talk to anyone, show your passport to anyone, just a streamlined experience. Facial recognition systems, AI integration, robotic logistics, all to create a smooth and streamlined experience. We are also seeing hints of potential supersonic travel being re-introduced since Concorde's failure in the early 2000s. These exciting innovations are a matter of when, rather than if. Changi International Airport is taking these innovations and aiming to implement them in early 2024. Can we see the same for Auckland Airport? Definitely.

QANTAS ALLOWS "NEIGHBOUR FREE" UPGRADE FROM NEW ZEALAND

The Australian airline is now trialing a new feature which allows passengers flying on trans-Tasman flights alongside flights to the US and Singapore to purchase an empty seat next to them. The trial period is undisclosed, however, following an evaluation of the trial, more international routes may see this option become available. The way it works: Passenger's on eligible flights will receive a notification 2 days before departure offering this upgrade to "reserve" the seat next to them. As it's not guaranteed, if the seat is sold after "reserving," the passenger is refunded.

    SINGAPORE'S NEWLY RENOVATED CYCLE PATH

Planning a trip to Singapore? The newly renovated cycle path is a must-see. It's called the Singapore-Kranji railway and now you can enjoy a bike ride through Singapore on one of the countries most historic features which debuted 120 years ago. The final train journey operated in 2011 and it was then closed until it was revitalised into a bike path for locals and tourists to soak up the unique history of Singapore. The route passes through Singapore's beautiful wildlife to the urban infrastructure.
