Postcard from Fiji

Postcard from Fiji Alisha Lockie

In 2023 I travelled for the first time as a family with my 3 month old and husband to Fiji. I was definitely nervous - travelling with kids always looked like it had it's own special set of challenges, and I'd say that was absolutely the case.

However, while there are a few more considerations travelling with little ones, it doesn't need to be hard. We found staying on the mainland and going down to the Coral Coast was perfect for us for this trip. We wanted to keep things as simple as possible and Fiji ticked that box for us.

We booked an all inclusive rate so we didn't need to stress about costs while we were there and it was so nice not feeling like we were reaching for our wallets the whole time.

Our little one enjoyed al fresco naps in his travel pram under the cover of a snooze shade while we lazed in the sun, and we found our front pack to be another essential accessory.

We took turns enjoying walks around the resort and swimming in the sea and were surprised at how relaxing it was dining out as a family. Often a lovely staff member would come by and swoop the baby out of our hands for cuddles and a walk so we were able to eat at the same time which was unbelievably lovely and so appreciated.

I can't recommend Fiji enough - it's incredibly easy with just one direct flight from Christchurch, the locals are so relaxed and friendly, and we actually came away feeling like we had a break (which we weren't really expecting). Our wee guy was a bit too young still, but for older babies there are nannies to hire and kids club for slightly older kids so everyone is able to get a proper break.
