Welcome to House of Travel Mount Maunganui

Nothing is ever too large or too small for our team and we’ve got a gold mine of ideas and tips to make your holiday or travel experiences better than you’d ever imagined.

We believe in the power of human connection to create the best holidays, someone who knows you and knows travel, and we have an unbeatable network of travel partners.

We live, breathe and dream travel (you might say we’re addicted!) - so wherever’s next on your must-visit list, you can bet at least one of our team has either been there, or sent someone there.

We understand that planning a trip now requires an even greater pool of knowledge, experience, and time to ensure the best outcome, and we’re with you every step of the way.

We also know your down time is precious and we think everyone deserves the best holiday possible.

That’s why we promise that if a curveball gets thrown your way, we’ll get it sorted for you, so you can relax and get on with enjoying your holiday.

When it comes to making travel plans, we believe nothing beats being able to speak with your own personal travel advisor face to face. So, if you’re ready to chat about your plans and dreams, simply give us a call to make an instore appointment - that way we can guarantee you uninterrupted time to discuss your holiday plans with one our experienced globe-trotting travel gurus.

But we recognise that getting together in person isn’t always possible, so if you’re unable to make it instore, we can always meet with you virtually (via video appointment) - and best of all it’s easy! Or of course, you can still contact us by email or phone.

It’s your holiday, and the way you choose to plan it, is entirely up to you - we’re ready when you are.

I have been a part of the travel industry for over 30 years and still love it! I love to travel and I often joke with my clients that I live vicariously through them. Planning the perfect holiday for my clients fills me with joy. I take pride in what I do and love sharing my passion of travel. Many of my clients have become life long friends.

I'm honestly in my dream job - I get to combine my passion for travel with my love of organisation and planning. Travel has changed so much over the last few years and continues to do so, which means there are more details to consider than ever before.

After many years in the travel industry, what makes this job special to me, is having my clients return from their trips to tell me about their adventures and then wanting to rebook another holiday with me - they do say the best way to overcome the post-travel blues is to already be planning your next one, and I couldn’t agree more!

She was always quick to respond to our questions, had great communication, was flexible to make changes to flights when we were worried about early morning fog potentially delaying our flight from Hawkes Bay to Auckland (we didn't want to miss our international flight). She often went the extra mile, helping us with korean visas, travel advice for flights etc. Highly recommend House of Travel and especially Steph!

  • House of Travel Mount [Shelley Rich] was just incredible, going above and beyond organising my trip to Europe including eight flights. Unfortunately just before leaving NZ went into lockdown and everything was cancelled. Shelley's support was just outstanding. She organised a refund for all my booked flights, she kept me constantly updated with the latest travel news, it was absolutely AMAZING. I just can't recommend her and her team, highly enough. I'll be back once I'm able to go to Europe again, thanks heaps Shelley, your very happy customer :)

  • We recently went on a trip to Queenstown and booked through house of travel mount Maunganui. We worked with Tanya and Shelly and both ladies were amazing!! We were meant to fly from Auckland but due to level 4 conditions for Auckland we had to change this last minute and they worked so hard for us to find the best flights at the best rate! We were so happy with the outcome and would 100% work with them again in the future for any upcoming trips!! Highly recommend :)

ENGINE ISSUES CAUSE 2 YEAR DELAYS FOR AIR NEW ZEALAND

In July this year, engine manufacturer Pratt and Whitney announced that 700 planes across the globe need to be inspected. Air New Zealand has 17 Airbus A320 and A321 NEO's which fly to Australia, Pacific Islands and other domestic routes need to be inspected. Chief executive Greg Foran said most customers are still likely to fly on the same day however, some international flights will move a day either side of their original booking date. A refund will be available to the 150,000 affected passengers if their changed service doesn't suit there itineraries. This will see the pause to direct flights from Auckland to Hobart and Seoul from April 2024.

EXCITING INNOVATIONS TO THE WAY WE TRAVEL

With the world reopening and travel is becoming more attractive than ever. Innovations are set in place to make the travelling experience so much better. Imagine not having to talk to anyone, show your passport to anyone, just a streamlined experience. Facial recognition systems, AI integration, robotic logistics, all to create a smooth and streamlined experience. We are also seeing hints of potential supersonic travel being re-introduced since Concorde's failure in the early 2000s. These exciting innovations are a matter of when, rather than if. Changi International Airport is taking these innovations and aiming to implement them in early 2024. Can we see the same for Auckland Airport? Definitely.

QANTAS ALLOWS "NEIGHBOUR FREE" UPGRADE FROM NEW ZEALAND

The Australian airline is now trialing a new feature which allows passengers flying on trans-Tasman flights alongside flights to the US and Singapore to purchase an empty seat next to them. The trial period is undisclosed, however, following an evaluation of the trial, more international routes may see this option become available. The way it works: Passenger's on eligible flights will receive a notification 2 days before departure offering this upgrade to "reserve" the seat next to them. As it's not guaranteed, if the seat is sold after "reserving," the passenger is refunded.

    SINGAPORE'S NEWLY RENOVATED CYCLE PATH

Planning a trip to Singapore? The newly renovated cycle path is a must-see. It's called the Singapore-Kranji railway and now you can enjoy a bike ride through Singapore on one of the countries most historic features which debuted 120 years ago. The final train journey operated in 2011 and it was then closed until it was revitalised into a bike path for locals and tourists to soak up the unique history of Singapore. The route passes through Singapore's beautiful wildlife to the urban infrastructure.

Our travel stories

My Trafalgar Tour

I was lucky enough to experience European Tour with Trafalgar Tours.  Our itinerary started in Geneva and finished in Barcelona.  Taking in some of the gems in Provence and Northern Spain.

Postcard from Pacific Northwest USA.

In September 2019, my brother and I did a two week hiking trip through the Canadian Rockies (amazing). When we finished up in Vancouver, we hired a car for a week and drove a few hours South to cross the border into the US.

Postcard from Alaska

It's funny how certain photos that aren't particularly something you want to print or show other people can evoke memories years later. For me seeing the photo I took from my cabin looking out the balcony reminds me of waking up and...

Postcard from Canada

My brother and I did a camping tour in autumn in Canada. To this day its the most fun I've had in my life. A minivan of people from around the world becoming friends, camping in gorgeous locations, hiking, canoeing, cooking together and just getting up to general shenanigans in one of the most scenic locations I've ever been to.

Postcard from New Zealand

Postcard from South Island. For those of us who love to travel, how often do we end up missing our own backyards? I was mid-30's before I went on my first proper roundtrip down the South Island...

Postcard from Lyon

I love exploring. This is one of the oldest streets in Lyon which dates back to the 15th Century.

Postcard from Seattle and Portland

My family has a love of aviation with three generations of pilots. So when my brother and I were in the Pacific Northwest in 2019 we were excited to visit The Museum of Flight in Seattle, as well as the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

Postcards from France

I am seriously in love with France, be it the Glitz of Paris, The charming villages of Rural France, be it Provence, Burgundy, coastal or inland I just can't seem too every have enough time here.

Postcard from Las Vegas

An internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife.

Postcard from Dubai

A stopover in Dubai enroute to Europe gives you the chance to experience a stunning city in the desert.

Postcards from Africa

AFRICA was a life long dream to experience real wilderness, and when we finally got there it exceeded everything I could have imagined.

Avalon River Cruise Basel to Amsterdam

My Avalon River Cruise experience was incredible and truly exceeded my expectations.
