12 days sailing from Honiara, Soloman Islands to Port Vila, Vanuatu
The Spirit of Enderby is an expedition ship carrying just 50 passengers. Sailing from Honiara the capital of the Solomon Islands we discovered idyllic islands and isolated villages where unique time-honoured traditions are still alive. Life has changed little as visitors from the outside world often only arrive once a year.
Each island we visited offered a glimpse into the villages culturally rich life where traditional currency was still Malaitan shell-money, used as a dowry and worn as a status symbol. Villages live in simple dwellings with no running water to electricity. We had opportunity’s to visit the schools, churches and village gardens and enjoyed the traditional dancing and ceremony’s each village entertained us with.
This journey also offers some of the greatest underwater experiences in the world, with an abundance of marine life and coral gardens that draws you in to explore a magical underwater world. During frequent snorkel excursions throughout the expedition everybody has the opportunity to appreciate the beauty beneath the waves.
In Espiritu Santo we visited the iconic blue holes and beautiful Champagne Beach and then Ambryn the island of volcanoes.
Meals on board the ship were a set menu which changed daily and excellent. Each evening expert speakers talked about the culture, fauna and flora we encounter and we were briefed on the next day’s itinerary.
This whole trip was an experience of a life time and one I will always treasure.
