Postcard from Malaysia

In July 2024, I explored the vibrant cultures of Malaysia and Singapore. My ultimate highlight was Borneo, where I indulged my passion for wildlife. I joined a G-Adventures tour in Kota Kinabalu and spent a thrilling week immersed in nature. Like Africa’s Big Five, Borneo has its own ‘Big Five’: the Pygmy Elephants, Orangutans, Crocodiles, Proboscis Monkeys, and the Rhinoceros Hornbill (a bird, not a rhino!). We were fortunate to spot all five, including a young male Orangutan enjoying a snack high in the trees. The Elephants were so close to our lodge that jungle walks were paused for safety but seeing them up close made it all worthwhile.
