A tale of two cities: Our Los Angeles and Las Vegas adventure

California Suzanne Andrews

From the glitz of Los Angeles to the dazzling lights of the Las Vegas Strip, our family holiday through two iconic American cities - Los Angeles and Las Vegas – was a blast!

Spending a week in LA with a car allowed us the freedom to roam the city and explore like a local. Driving in L.A is easy with a good GPS as the Freeway system can be daunting if you are not sure where you are going. We stayed in Long Beach which was great to feel like a local away from the tourists, and we enjoyed visiting Hollywood, L.A beaches (Huntington and Newport beach), Mulholland Drive for impressive views, and Beverly Hills to see where the rich and famous live!

Of course, Disneyland, Disney California Adventure Park and Universal Studios are a must to visit. These iconic parks suit everyone as there are not only rides but immersive experiences so everyone can be amongst the magic! Downloading and using the park apps help navigate the wait times and helped us not miss the shows we wanted to see.

Leaving the City of Angels, we ventured into the desert oasis of Las Vegas. The water fountain at Bellagio is fantastic and make sure you go into Caesars Palace and the Venetian - they were our favourites! If planning on doing a Grand Canyon helicopter trip, choose the sunset option as you see the Canyon in amazing lighting and then fly over The Strip and see the lights! We also took the opportunity to go to Cirque du Soleil's “Beetles Love” show – a combination of great music and outstanding acrobatics on an incredible stage which was held right in our hotel – The Mirage!
